There's a great new anime I'm watching now. It's called DeathNote. It's about shinigami's but in no way similar to Bleach's take on them. A book called a 'DeathNote' is left in the human world, and monster shinigamis are left in the void somewhere in between heaven and hell to rott for all eternity. They actually do nothing. However, one day a straight-A student picks up the DeathNote and begins to "cleanse" the world of evil people, proclaiming himself as the new god. Panic occurs throughout the world from sudden mysterious deaths of criminals and the world is now after him.
Here's a bit of the 1st episode of DeathNote, there's even a live action movie.
